How To Measure Blinds

Measuring your windows correctly is crucial for installing blinds that fit perfectly. This blind measurement guide explains how to take accurate measurements for both inside mount and outside mount blinds, ensuring your window treatments look professional and function smoothly.

What You’ll Need:

  • Steel measuring tape
  • Notepad or phone
  • Ladder or step stool (for higher windows)

Step 1: Decide Mount Type

  • Inside mount: blinds fit inside the window frame.
  • Outside mount: blinds cover the entire window and frame.

Step 2: Measure Width

  • Inside mount: measure the exact width inside the window frame at the top, middle, and bottom. Use the narrowest measurement.
  • Outside mount: measure the width of the area you want to cover, typically adding 5–10 cm on each side.

Step 3: Measure Height

  • Inside mount: measure the height inside the window frame at the left, center, and right. Use the longest measurement.
  • Outside mount: measure from the top of where you want the blind to start down to the window sill or desired endpoint.

Tips for Accurate Blind Measurements

  • Always use a steel tape measure for precision.
  • Record all measurements carefully.
  • Confirm whether the manufacturer requires exact measurements or if adjustments will be made.
